Lackland AFB, TX - Airman First Class Richard Merz recently completed USAF Basic Training. Richard finished training as the Honor Graduate of his class, and was also honored with an invitation to dinner with the Secretary of Defense: the Honorable Robert Gates. Airman First Class Merz is currently undergoing tech school, and will be serving with the Wisconsin Air National Guard at Volk Field. Aside from recent honors with the Air Force, A1C Merz also served as the Cadet Commander for the 461st Squadron (located in West Bend, WI), was a graduate of Cadet Officer School in 2007, and attended National Blue Beret. Cadet Merz also earned his Eaker award, and aims to earn his Spaatz before he turns 21.
