langphoto.jpgJune 3, 2008.  The Stevens Point Composite Squadron announces the promotion of Cadet Chief Master Sergeant Steven Lang to Cadet Second Lieutenant and appointment to Cadet Commander.  His promotion and command appointment became effective during a ceremony held at the May 19 squadron meeting.

Lang, age 16, is the son of Lt. Col. (Dr.) Kevin Lang and Pamela Lang, of Marshfield. Lt. Col Lang is currently serving as Deputy Commander of Cadets and Cadet Programs Officer for the squadron.

Accompanying his promotion, Lang received the Mitchell Award.  The Mitchell Award is the second major milestone of the cadet program.  The award, which has existed since 1964, honors the late General Billy Mitchell, an aviation pioneer and staunch supporter of an independent U.S. air force.

To earn the award, a cadet must complete the first eight achievements of the cadet program and pass a comprehensive 100-question exam covering leadership theory and aerospace topics.

Cadets who receive the Mitchell award are also eligible for advanced placement to the grade of E-3 (Airman First class) should they choose to enter the U.s. Air Force.  In addition, a Mitchell cadet is eligible for advance credit in AFROTC, various CAP scholarships, and CAP special activity opportunities.

Earlier in May, Lang was approved by the squadron flight board to begin private pilot training. Lang's future plans include attending the U.S. Air Force Academy and becoming a medical doctor.
