Forty-seven members of the Wisconsin Wing took part in the Ground Team Academy held at Volk Field over the Memorial Day weekend, May 27-29. Training was offered for ground team member levels one, two, three, as well as for ground team leader.
According to Project Officer Lt. Col. Tim Slater (Southwest Group Commander), this was the first time ground team training was offered at the Wing level. The organizers and participants were pleased with how the two-day training mission went. The academy was also favored with good weather.
Taking part were 30 cadets and 17 senior members, representing 14 units, including two units from the Illinois Wing. Trainees were able to get nearly all of their required training signed off by the end of the academy.
In addition to Lt. Col. Slater, ten instructors provided training during the weekend: Lt. Col. John Lang (WI-156), Lt. Col. Dan Bell (WI-004), Maj. Ryan Krenke (WI-153), Lt. Col Peter Fabian (WI-153), Maj. Kristine Hanson (WI-037), Lt. Col. Jerry Krueger (WI-002), Lt. Col. Chris Trossen (WI-002), Lt. Col Randall Tesch (WI-057), Cadet Lane Pirkel (WI-153), and 1/Lt. Allison Schneller (WI-037).
