Duties
of the CISM Coordinator:
In
event of a traumatic critical incident my team coordinates
defusing, debriefing, and referral services. In
event of an traumatic
experience on a SAR, I will need to be contacted
within 24 hours of
said event, with names of personnel and contact
information. I in turn,
will contact personnel and evaluate if any need
to progress further in
the process and forward the finding without names
onto higher authority.
CISM FAQ
Q: What is a critical incident?
A: It is any event that may have caused trauma to our thinking, i.e. viewing a body at an accident scene.
Q: What if I am the only one that finds the event offensive?
A: The defusing process may be all that is necessary and may occur on a one to one basis through peer support.
Q: Won't the nightmares, sleeplessness, and eating problems
go away over time?
A: They tend not to go away until we deal with the
emotional and mental trauma through talking. It is better to work through the event prior to any problems as these that may arise.
Required
Reports:
If we have an event, a notation needs to go to the wing commander and a notation goes to the GLR CISM Coordinator, usually within 24 hours of an incident. No names are submitted as this is an anonymous process.
